The menu

When you are compiling the RSVPs make a note of any dietary/special meal requirements (for example, vegetarian, gluten-free, etc). Keep in mind that some people will say they are a vegetarian but they can have fish, which is technically not a vegetarian. Ask if the venue can provide you with a vegetarian menu option when you are considering the menu choice for the event. You don’t want a member of management, a close relation or friend not eating.

Consider religious dietary requirements of guests, for example, Muslim, Hindu, etc., or consider that European weddings traditionally need four courses.

Ensure that you have a balance of food in the menu choices, for example, do not offer seafood for entrée and seafood again for main course.

Consider the seasons and choose food that is appropriate, such as a soup entrée for winter, cold appetiser for summer.

You may need to include children’s meals. If this is the case, make sure that a saving on a per head price applies and that you consider foods that will appeal to the younger guests.

Ask if the venue does a menu tasting so that you can sample some of your food choices and see if they are suitable.
